A former rugby player, who had to retire from climbing this summer, reflects on his career, friendships, and future aspirations. He remains close to the trio of Antoine Dupont, Jelonch, and Gauthier Doubrère. He recalls forming friendships in Auch, Hautes-Pyrénées, and maintaining them through time, despite the busy schedules of his peers. His rugby career brought him to various parts of France, where he built lasting relationships with fellow athletes. He discusses missed opportunities in Castres, noting that in 2016, during his penultimate season in Auch, he was performing well and had been approached by Antoine Dupont to move to Castres. A potential move was in discussion with Christophe Urios, but he suffered a cruciate ligament injury shortly after. Two years later in Toulouse, he was performing with Colomiers and Antoine Dupont again attempted to facilitate a move, this time to Ugo Mola. However, he suffered a biceps detachment, which ended the discussions. He acknowledges that while he might have regretted not testing himself at that level, nothing guarantees he would have performed at that level or been given a chance. In 2024, when he signed with Brive, he had considered stopping professional rugby to play in Japan, aiming to integrate into the local culture. He had contacted Pierre-Henry Broncan to send his CV but believes it was never sent. He also mentions that if he had continued playing, he was ready to try the Swiss championship, work, or restart his studies, and enjoy the mountains, particularly with their long winter break. He joined Antoine Dupont in Los Angeles in 2024, shortly after the Olympics, to discover American football and the Chargers franchise. He had broken his shoulder and Pierre-Henry Broncan allowed him to go with Antoine, who was known to be a sensible person. He enjoyed the experience of discovering the United States, training centers, stadiums, and spending time in Los Angeles, including Venice Beach, with his childhood friend. An avid climber and traveler, he has explored the Pyrenees, Bolivia in his childhood, and the high mountains of India with his girlfriend. He notes that professional rugby did not allow him to travel in such a way, and upon his return, he lost 10 kg, which surprised his teammates. He now has more time to explore such trips. Before returning to normal life, he plans a world tour with his girlfriend, including climbing Aconcagua, kitesurfing in South Africa, humanitarian work in Nepal, and diving in turquoise waters. He also plans to resume studies in Toulouse to become an occupational therapist. He still experiences residual effects from repeated concussions, notably his vision does not always focus, especially in the mountains, and he has reflex losses noticeable when playing ball sports like padel. He hopes these effects will fade with time.
