A charity called the Greenaway Foundation is organizing a music event to raise money for a program that helps low-income families afford Christmas. The foundation provides ingredients for a two-course Christmas dinner to families in the counties of Kent, Sussex, and Surrey, helping them with the costs of the holiday season. To fund this work, the charity hosts a music festival called Greenaway Live at Crawley Rugby Club on Saturday starting at 15:00 BST. Ticket sales from the event will support the foundation’s efforts to assist families facing financial difficulties. Darren Greenaway, the founder of the charity, explained that the Christmas project has grown significantly over the years. This year, he said the foundation needs to raise around £200,000 to continue its work. As part of its festive initiatives, children from low-income families can write down a "make a wish for a Christmas present," which the foundation then delivers to them on Christmas Eve. Greenaway said that some parents become emotional when the charity arrives to deliver the gifts, highlighting the deep impact the program has on families. The first Greenaway Live event was held in 2025, and the second edition will be streamed online through the charity’s social media platforms. Greenaway shared with the BBC that he was on his honeymoon when he first tried to organize the event. However, he said that this year, the event has gained more attention and support, prompting the team to start planning for the following year. He described the festival as a "mini Live Aid" because all the performers are donating their time and talent for free. The Greenaway Foundation aims to support over 1,000 families by 2026, showing the growing reach of its efforts. The charity’s work not only helps families afford a Christmas meal but also brings joy through personalized gifts, making the holiday season more meaningful for those in need.
