Garmin, a well-known maker of wearable technology, is offering free software updates to enhance the features of several of its connected watches, as reported recently. The updates include new safety features, voice control capabilities, and health-related improvements. These updates were released on September 22, 2026, and apply to a range of Garmin watch models, including the Venu 4 and others. One of the key additions is fall detection, now available on the Garmin Venu 4. This feature uses the watch’s sensors to detect when a fall occurs and automatically sends a message with the user’s location to pre-set contacts. Users can choose to have this feature always on or only active during specific activities, such as running or hiking, providing an added layer of safety. Voice control has also been introduced across several models, including the Fenix 8, Forerunner 570, Forerunner 970, and the Vivoactive 6 and Venu 4. Users can now say “Ok, Garmin” to perform actions like starting an activity, turning on the flashlight, or setting a timer without touching the watch. Additionally, saying “phone assistant” will launch the virtual assistant on a paired smartphone, making it easier to access information or control other apps hands-free. Health and fitness features have also seen improvements, with the addition of quick training sessions that simplify workout routines and provide running suggestions based on the user’s physical condition. Users can now set specific goals with new planning tools, and indoor skiing tracking is now supported through a dedicated profile. For users of Garmin’s Edge bike computers, the Enduro driving profile now automatically detects hills and declines, switching between modes to help cyclists maintain a smoother ride. These updates are expected to roll out to devices and the Garmin app over the next few days to a few weeks.
