Regional aid available for affected merchants

Merchants in Nice who suffered damage from violence in October can apply for a 10,000 euro regional aid to help them recover. This aid is part of a program called "Solidarity for Pillaged Businesses" and is meant to cover initial expenses after significant damage or theft.

Municipal aid still pending approval

A separate municipal aid of up to 5,000 euros per business is being considered by the local council but has not yet been approved. This aid would cover 50 percent of security-related costs incurred due to the demonstrations, though it remains conditional on the council's vote.

Damage extent reported by local chamber

The regional chamber of commerce and industry reported that between 15 and 20 businesses in Nice were affected by the violence on October 17. These businesses now face challenges such as repairing storefronts, replacing equipment, and restocking, which can delay their return to normal operations.

Eligibility criteria for regional aid

To qualify for the regional aid, businesses must be independent SMEs with fewer than 250 employees or part of the social and solidarity economy. They must also have been registered and operating by October 17, and meet specific fiscal, social, and financial conditions set by the region.

Application process and deadlines

Applications for the regional aid must be submitted online by February 28, 2027. Required documents include a recent extract from the National Business Register, a RIB for the affected business, and proof of damage such as insurance reports, police statements, or expert assessments.

Municipal support plan under review

The city of Nice has proposed a municipal support plan that would cover 50 percent of security costs for affected businesses, up to 5,000 euros per establishment. However, this plan is still awaiting approval by the municipal council, scheduled for November 19, 2026.

Administrative and legal assistance available

The city has set up a support cell to help affected merchants with administrative and legal challenges. This includes assistance with storefront repairs, temporary signage, and insurance procedures. The city aims to respond to requests within 48 hours and assign a dedicated contact person for each affected merchant.

Additional support services

Merchants can access free legal guidance from the Montjoye association and the Bar Association, as well as psychological support from the Maison d'Accueil des Victimes de Nice. The Mission Commerce can also be contacted for help with reopening and other support issues.
