Euro-Office launches desktop versions

Euro-Office has released desktop versions of its office suite, allowing users to download and install the software as a native application for Windows, macOS, and Linux. This marks a significant step for the project, which previously only offered a web-based version accessible through a browser.

Applications included in the suite

The desktop version includes four core applications: Document for word processing, Spreadsheet for managing data, Presentation for creating slideshows, and PDF for editing PDF files. These tools are designed to function as open-source alternatives to Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat, offering similar features and file compatibility.

Offline use and cloud compatibility

The desktop version is intended for use without an internet connection, though it can sync with cloud storage platforms like Nextcloud or ownCloud. This flexibility allows users to work on files locally while still integrating with their preferred cloud services for backup and sharing.

Based on OnlyOffice open-source project

Euro-Office is built on the OnlyOffice open-source platform, adopting its interface and features for now. However, the project may evolve independently in the future. It supports common file formats such as .docx, ensuring compatibility with documents created in Microsoft Word and other similar programs.

Collaboration of European companies

Euro-Office was developed by a coalition of European companies, including Nextcloud, IONOS, Proton, and others, after they faced challenges contributing to OnlyOffice's development. The group released the source code of OnlyOffice to create their own version, which is now available for download on GitHub.
