The RCT coach, Franck Azéma, has decided to bench fly-half Melvyn Jaminet for the upcoming match against Racing 92. Azéma cited Jaminet's underperformance this season as the reason for the decision. The Var-based club, known as RCT, is currently in second-to-last place in the Top 14, the top-tier French rugby league, after five matches. They have only managed one win so far this season, and their most recent match ended in a 28-00 defeat against Montpellier HR in the Hérault region. This poor performance led to the resignation of rugby director Pierre Mignoni and prompted the coaching staff to make significant changes to the team's strategy and lineup. Azéma stated that Jaminet, who has started in four of the five matches this season, is not meeting the team's expectations. He encouraged Jaminet to "dig deep within himself to find other resources" and emphasized the need for improved performance in the upcoming match. Jaminet has long been considered a key player, starting in 87% of his matches with Toulon. However, the emergence of Marius Domon has created competition for the fly-half position. Domon, though currently injured, is expected to return by the end of November. To address the team's struggles, the RCT might consider calling upon Mathis Ferté, who started as a fly-half in the recent match against Castres Olympique. Other options include Setariki Tuicuvu, who is comfortable playing behind the line, and Matéo Garcia, who can provide cover in the position. These changes are part of a broader effort to improve performance and regain momentum in the league. Following Mignoni's resignation, several personalities have pointed out the lack of commitment from the players. The club's owner-president, Bernard Lemaître, stated that the solution lies with the players themselves, emphasizing that if they fail to improve, the club will continue to decline. The first signs of improvement are expected during the sixth round of the Top 14, which will be played at the Mayol Stadium, a key venue for the team.
