Val-d’Oise sees rise in long-term job seekers
In the third quarter of 2026, the Val-d’Oise department in northern France had 115,130 people registered with France Travail in categories A, B, and C, which include active job seekers and those on temporary leave. This number increased by 1,860 over three months, with a notable rise in the number of people registered for at least one year.More people staying registered long-term
More than 50,000 individuals in the Val-d’Oise were registered without interruption for one year or more, up from 44,310 the previous year. This represents a 13.8 percent annual increase, much higher than the 5.3 percent growth for all registered individuals in these categories.Different categories reflect different statuses
Among the registered individuals, 74,640 were not engaged in any professional activity and belonged to category A. Their number increased by 1.7 percent since the second quarter and by 5.9 percent over one year. The remaining 40,490 in categories B and C had reduced activity, meaning the total includes people who had worked during the month.Long-term registration grows in the department
The share of long-term registered individuals now reaches 43.8 percent in the Val-d’Oise, up from 40.5 percent in the third quarter of 2025. Of these, 25,940 have been registered for one to less than two years, 10,620 for two to less than three years, and 13,880 for three years or more.Regional comparisons show growth differences
At the Île-de-France level, the share of those registered for at least one year is 45.4 percent. The Val-d’Oise remains below this regional proportion, but its annual growth is stronger: 3.3 percentage points, compared to 2.2 points for the entire Île-de-France region.Younger job seekers show stronger growth
Categories A, B, and C together include 17,290 registered individuals under 25 in the Val-d’Oise, an increase of 8.3 percent compared to one year ago. This growth outpaces that of all age groups in the department.Age groups show different trends
Among those aged 25-49, 70,920 people are registered, with a 6.1 percent annual increase. Those aged 50 and over represent 26,920 registered individuals, or a 1.6 percent annual increase. These differences highlight varied experiences among age groups, though the report does not provide details by commune or employment area.Regional and national trends
In Île-de-France, categories A, B, and C had 1,103,840 registered individuals in the third quarter, an increase of 1.3 percent compared to the previous quarter. In France excluding Mayotte, the increase was 0.8 percent. Category A in the region increased by 1.2 percent, compared to 1.7 percent in the Val-d’Oise.Registration flows remain dynamic
The department records an average of 23,160 entries and 22,510 exits per month from categories A, B, and C over the quarter. These flows, down 6.6 percent compared to the previous quarter, reflect administrative movements between categories, not just job placements or job losses.New categories added by reform
The reform of the public employment service introduced two additional categories: 12,731 people are registered in social pathways (F) and 8,918 in waiting for orientation (G) in the Val-d’Oise. These numbers are not included in the 115,130 registered individuals in categories A, B, and C. The next departmental publication is scheduled for January 28, 2027.
