Quarterly jobless numbers drop slightly in Ille-et-Vilaine

In the third quarter of 2026, an average of 87,370 individuals were registered with France Travail in categories A, B, and C in the Ille-et-Vilaine department, a decrease of 710 individuals compared to the previous quarter, representing a 0.8 percent decline. However, this number remains 0.8 percent higher than the same period in 2025. The data comes from a departmental report published on October 28 by the regional labor authority, which includes findings from France Travail and the Dares.

Category B sees the biggest drop

The decline is primarily attributed to category B, which includes individuals who worked no more than 78 hours in the reference month. There are 14,250 individuals in this category, a decrease of 620 compared to the previous quarter, or a 4.2 percent drop. Category A, which includes individuals with no activity during the reference month, saw a slight decrease of 30 individuals, while category C, which includes individuals with longer periods of reduced activity, decreased by 0.2 percent.

Regional trends show mixed results

At the regional level, categories A, B, and C totaled 262,150 individuals, a 0.3 percent decrease over the quarter but a 1.1 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. The quarterly decline in Ille-et-Vilaine is more pronounced than the overall regional decline.

Age groups show contrasting trends

The number of individuals under 25 years old in categories A, B, and C reached 13,450, an increase of 0.7 percent over three months and 3.9 percent over a year. In contrast, individuals aged 50 and older decreased to 19,610, a 1.6 percent decline over the quarter and a 1.1 percent decrease compared to the summer of 2025. Individuals aged 25 to 49 years totaled 54,300, a 0.9 percent decrease over three months.

Long-term registrants remain stable

On average, 39,580 individuals have been registered for at least a year in categories A, B, or C. Their number has slightly decreased since the second quarter but remains 4.2 percent higher than that of the third quarter of 2025. They now represent 45.3 percent of the registered individuals, compared to 43.8 percent a year earlier.

New categories add complexity to the data

Including categories D and E, France Travail records 99,930 individuals in Ille-et-Vilaine, a 0.3 percent decrease over the quarter. Two additional categories, introduced with the reform of the public employment service in 2025, are subject to separate monitoring: 11,751 individuals in social pathways (F) and 3,272 individuals waiting for orientation (G). These figures are published in raw data, unlike the A to E series adjusted for seasonal variations and working days.

Next update to track key groups

The next departmental publication, scheduled for January 28, 2027, will allow the tracking of these figures in the fourth quarter, particularly among young people and individuals registered for more than a year.
