Tymon Smektala, who spent 13 years at Techland and was involved with the Dying Light franchise, has joined Bloober Team as executive director to oversee its label Broken Mirror Games. Founded in 2024, Broken Mirror Games is a subsidiary through which Bloober Team collaborates with other studios to publish horror games with modest size and budgets. So far, the label has produced the VR title Star Trek: Infection and the survival game I Hate This Place, which was adapted from a comic. Both games have received average reviews. Smektala mentioned on LinkedIn that he is taking on a new challenge by leading Broken Mirror Games, shaping its artistic direction and portfolio, and working with external studios to introduce new perspectives on horror in video games. He will initially support the teams working on the asymmetric multiplayer game Saw: Genesis and the Switch 2 exclusivity Onyx: The Dark Grip, while also seeking out new projects to publish. The Dying Light franchise, known for its open-world survival gameplay and zombie combat, has been a major part of Techland's output. The future of the franchise is reportedly taking shape through content updates, patches, and possibly additional expansions for Dying Light 2: Stay Human and Dying Light: The Beast. These updates could add new gameplay features, story elements, or environments to the existing games. It is also said that Techland is working on a new episode of Call of Juarez, a series of Western-themed first-person shooters. This would mark a return to a different genre for the studio, which has primarily focused on survival and horror games in recent years. The development of new content across different genres shows the company's efforts to diversify its portfolio and maintain relevance in the competitive video game industry.
