H’ability introduces a VR rehab device for home use, allowing stroke patients to recover with remote therapist monitoring and interactive exercises.
Virtual rehab device for home use
H’ability Home is a new virtual reality system designed to help patients recover from strokes at home, with remote monitoring by their therapists. It aims to provide continuous care when in-person sessions become less frequent. How the system works
The system uses a wireless headset that tracks hand movements without a controller, a technology called hand-tracking. This allows patients to interact with virtual environments using natural gestures.Therapeutic games and exercises
Patients engage in a library of therapeutic games that replace traditional exercises with interactive activities. For example, instead of doing arm extensions, they might break blocks in a virtual boxing game, making the therapy more engaging.Augmented reality features
The system also includes augmented reality, where patients see their real environment enhanced with 3D objects. This helps them practice movements in familiar settings, improving real-world application of their skills.Therapist monitoring platform
A web platform gives therapists access to detailed session summaries, including patient feelings, pain levels, movement amplitudes, and performance metrics. Therapists can adjust the program as needed, with monitoring estimated to take about 15 minutes per week per patient.Collaboration with medical experts
H’ability developed the system in collaboration with doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and adapted physical activity teachers to ensure it meets clinical and therapeutic standards.Launch and expansion
H’ability Home was launched in October 2026, following the company’s earlier provision of virtual reality rehabilitation to hospitals and private therapists since 2021. The home version aims to extend care beyond clinical settings.Clinical trial underway
A clinical trial is currently testing the effectiveness of H’ability Home, with results expected in early 2027. No data has been published yet on its home use effectiveness.
