Jensen Ackles, best known for his roles in Supernatural and The Boys, recently drew attention when he began following James Gunn's Instagram account on October 3. This action sparked online speculation that he might be in line for a role as Batman in the DC Universe. Ackles has long been associated with the character, having voiced Batman in animated films such as Batman: A Long Halloween and Justice League: Warworld. He has also expressed interest in playing Batman in live action, even wearing the costume publicly and being recognized as one of the best Halloween costumes in 2019. James Gunn, who is co-CEO of DC Studios, responded to the rumors on Threads on October 4. He said he had not noticed Ackles following his account and joked that he would "follow him back." Gunn shared that he had met Ackles 20 years ago when he was dating a mutual friend and described him as a "nice guy." However, he emphasized that no role had been offered to Ackles and that there were no current plans for him in the DC Universe. The rumors grew after some social media accounts claimed Ackles had been hired for a secret role in the DC Universe or had changed his profile picture to a Batman logo. However, these claims were not confirmed. Similar speculation had previously surrounded other actors, such as Grant Gustin, who plays Barry Allen in The Flash, and Glen Powell, who also followed Gunn's account but did not land a role. The DC Universe has not yet introduced Batman in its live-action films, though upcoming projects like Clayface and The Brave and the Bold will feature Damian Wayne, Batman's son. In the meantime, Robert Pattinson will continue playing Bruce Wayne in The Batman, Part 2, set for release next year. James Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are expected to lead the DC Universe despite recent changes at Warner Bros. and Paramount.
