Casting for new Batman begins soon

James Gunn, director and head of DC Studios, said the search for the next Batman in the DC cinematic universe will start "not too long" from now. He hinted that the actor will likely be around the same age as David Corenswet, who plays Superman in the DCU.

Age considerations for the new Batman

Gunn emphasized that Batman and Superman are friends and contemporaries, suggesting a minimal age difference between them. This implies the next Batman is expected to be between 30 and 35 years old, a range previously associated with the role except for Ben Affleck's portrayal of an older version.

DC Studios denies casting rumors

Gunn clarified that DC Studios was preparing to select the actor who will portray Batman in the DCU and denied rumors that the role had already been cast. He expressed openness to considering any actor for the role, including those who had previously appeared in DC films such as The Suicide Squad.

Current Batman in a different universe

Robert Pattinson currently portrays Batman in his own universe, distinct from the DCU. A different Batman will team up with characters such as Superman in the DCU. Gunn noted that Batman is one of the three main characters of the future of DC.

Other actors considered for the role

Some had hoped the role would return to Alan Ritchson, but the actor confirmed he was in negotiations for a role other than Batman. DC Studios director Peter Safran mentioned they were looking for a character that would suit Ritchson, potentially one that audiences are not yet familiar with.

Potential reveal of new Batman by next year

Gunn suggested that if casting begins soon, the identity of the next Batman could be revealed as early as next year.
