David Corenswet, who plays Superman in James Gunn's film, has confirmed that the Man of Steel will wear a redesigned costume in the sequel, Superman: Man of Tomorrow. The film is set to release in French cinemas on July 7, 2027, and in other regions on July 9, 2027. The 33-year-old actor made the comments during an interview with the magazine People on Monday, October 5, while attending a New York screening of Mr. Irrelevant, in which he plays John Tuggle, the last player chosen in the 1983 NFL draft. The initial design of Clark Kent's costume had sparked intense discussions on social media, with critics pointing out its thick seams, rigid material, and unusual folds. In response to the feedback, the production team appears to have made changes for the second installment, Superman: Man of Tomorrow (also known as Superman 2). For the sequel, a redesigned costume "tailored for combat" has been introduced. According to Corenswet, the technical teams of James Gunn have revisited the design process to ensure the hero's outfit is suitable for large-scale stunts. "The costume is a bit different," he said. "They have reengineered it to be a bit more functional and ready for combat." The new design moves away from the rigid, armor-like impression that limited movement, offering greater ergonomics and flexibility. The relaxed, leisurely vibe of the first film, which focused on Superman's family dynamics and romantic relationship with Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), gives way to a more intense storyline in Superman: Man of Tomorrow. The sequel introduces new narrative challenges, including an unnatural alliance and an extraterrestrial threat. The change in Superman's appearance is not just for visual appeal but directly responds to the story's demands. The film will feature a tense partnership between Superman and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) as they face the formidable Brainiac, portrayed by German actor Lars Eidinger. Corenswet expressed excitement about reuniting with Hoult and exploring the complex relationship between Superman and Lex Luthor. "It was great to reunite with Nick [Hoult] and to be able to explore the relationship between Superman and Lex a bit more deeply," he said. Facing a cosmic threat alongside a dangerous billionaire, a suit designed to withstand physical blows becomes essential. The set atmosphere, described by Corenswet as a "vacation camp" with Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult, may not translate to the final film's tone. The sequel is expected to be significantly more intense and less relaxed than the first installment. With the new costume and the more serious storyline, Superman: Man of Tomorrow promises to be a more dynamic and action-packed continuation of the Man of Steel's journey.
