The family of Eden, a 14-year-old who was seriously injured during a high school protest in Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône, in the Val-d'Oise department, has announced through the 1948 Avocats law firm that they will file a formal complaint. The charges include "attempted murder" and "voluntary violence with a weapon committed by persons in a position of public authority against a minor under 15 years of age." According to the family's statement, Eden was "seriously injured" after being struck in the head by the firing of a tear gas grenade. Eden also claims to have been hit multiple times by "armed police who approached him." A press conference is scheduled for this Monday at 2 p.m. to discuss "the legal actions initiated." The Defender of Rights, an independent French institution that oversees the protection of citizens' rights, has taken up the case following Eden's injury. The institution told AFP on Thursday that the facts are being investigated by the IGPN, the "police of the police," which is responsible for internal investigations within the national police force. This self-initiated action by the Defender of Rights has led to the opening of an investigation by this independent administrative authority. Eden suffered "double fractures of the jaw, all the upper teeth broken and a number of lower teeth broken," according to his lawyer, Me Elsa Marcel, who spoke to AFP on Wednesday. The teenager is currently hospitalized and must undergo "an extremely heavy operation," she said. In Argenteuil, also in the Val-d'Oise, a 16-year-old claimed to have been injured in the eye by a LBD shot, which is a type of less-lethal projectile used by law enforcement. The National Police Inspection General (IGPN) has decided to open an investigation into this incident, making it the fourth such case since the start of the high school movement. Since the movement began, 824 people have been arrested in Île-de-France, including "85% minors," according to numbers released Saturday by the Paris police prefecture. These figures highlight the significant involvement of young people in the protests, which have raised concerns about the use of force by law enforcement and the treatment of minors during demonstrations.
