Hisense UR8S TV overview

The Hisense UR8S is a new television model from 2026, positioned below the more expensive UR9S in the company’s lineup. It features Mini-Led RGB technology, a 180 Hz panel, and high brightness, making it a compelling option for those seeking a balance between performance and price.

Mini-Led RGB technology

The UR8S uses Mini-Led RGB technology, which employs red, green, and blue diodes for backlighting. This differs from traditional Mini-Led systems that use white or blue diodes with filters. The goal is to expand the color gamut while maintaining the brightness advantages of LCD technology.

Price and competition

The 65-inch UR8S costs around 1500 €, placing it in direct competition with models like the TCL C89L and OLED televisions such as the LG C6 and Samsung S92H during promotions. While the price is premium for its class, it offers a more affordable alternative to higher-end models.

Design and connectivity

The UR8S has a classic design for a Mini-Led TV, featuring a metal stand that allows for adjustable height. It includes four HDMI 2.1 ports, two USB ports, and other connectivity options, making it suitable for gaming and multimedia use.

Software and user interface

The TV runs on Hisense’s Vidaa interface, which is fluid and compatible with major streaming apps. Unlike Google TV, it doesn’t require a user account to operate, but it includes sponsored content and ads, which may be a drawback for some users.

Performance and calibration issues

Despite its bright display and wide color gamut, the UR8S has significant calibration issues in SDR mode, with an average delta E of 9.1. The color temperature and gamma settings also fall short of ideal, affecting the accuracy of the image.

HDR performance

The UR8S excels in HDR content, with a delta E of 2.7 and a peak brightness of 2083 cd/m². It covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space and performs well in terms of HDR colorimetry, though it lags behind the UR9S and some competitors in peak brightness.

Anti-reflective and viewing angles

The UR8S has a reflectance of 16.7%, which is better than many competitors but not as good as Samsung’s 8%. LCD technology still suffers from poor viewing angles, with a 73% loss of brightness at 45°, which is standard for the type of panel used.

Gaming and input lag

While the UR8S has a 180 Hz panel and HDMI 2.1 ports, it struggles with input lag, measuring 141 ms in 1080p at 60 Hz. This makes it unsuitable for competitive gaming, despite its high refresh rate and gaming-compatible features.

Audio and energy efficiency

The built-in audio system is strong, with good spatialization and bass response. The UR8S also has a relatively low power consumption, averaging 68.6 W, which is better than many Mini-Led models.

Durability and value

The UR8S has a durability score of 8.4/10, indicating good reparability but with a drawback in spare part pricing. While it offers good performance for its price, it has several issues that prevent it from being a top-tier choice in its segment.
