TCL launches new Mini-LED TV model

TCL has introduced the 85X11L, an 85-inch television featuring a 4K resolution, a 144 Hz panel, and Mini LED backlight technology. The TV supports various HDR formats and includes multiple connectivity ports, Google TV, and voice assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant.

Technical specifications and performance

The TV uses a VA panel with a high-performance SQD-Mini LED backlight. In filmmaker mode, it achieved a Delta E of 2.2 in SDR and a color temperature of 6760 K. In HDR mode, it reaches a peak brightness of 3930 cd/m², with precise colors and deep blacks, though blooming is noticeable from the sides.

Gaming performance and features

With a native 144 Hz panel, the TV is suitable for gaming on consoles and PCs. It supports 4K at 120 Hz, VRR, and ALLM, with low input lag. However, motion blur is higher than OLED models, and viewing angles are a drawback of the VA panel.

Design and audio capabilities

The TV has a slim design with a bronze grille hiding its Bang & Olufsen audio system. The Google TV interface is smooth, and the remote is user-friendly. The audio system delivers clear dialogue and good bass, but spatialization is limited, and a soundbar would enhance the experience.

Market positioning and competition

TCL aims to compete in the high-end market with the X11L, offering strong brightness and image quality. However, it faces challenges from premium OLED models like the LG G6 and Samsung S95H/S99H, which provide better viewing angles and contrast. The X11L is also compared to TCL’s own C89L model, which offers better value for money at a lower price.

Comparison with Sony's Mini-LED model

Compared to Sony’s Bravia 9 II, the X11L has slightly lower brightness and a less effective anti-reflective filter. However, the Sony model is priced lower for the 75-inch version, making it a more refined option in some aspects.
