A woman who had previously accused American rapper Jay-Z and hip-hop mogul P. Diddy of sexually assaulting her during a party in 2000, when she was 13 years old, stated in a judicial document reviewed by AFP that she lied. In the document, recorded on Thursday, September 24, she said, "Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter never raped me. I have never met or spoken to Mr. Carter." She also stated that her claims that Mr. Carter and Mr. Combs (P. Diddy's real name) raped her while a third celebrity watched are false, adding that she is speaking "of her own free will" and without "compensation" of any kind. The woman, whose identity remains anonymous, explained that she made these accusations in the fall of 2024 after a Facebook ad calling on potential victims of P. Diddy to testify "revived memories of a rape she suffered when she was 13 years old." She also mentioned that she does not recall giving her authorization for the filing of her complaint in December 2024, which was withdrawn in February 2025. The document, partially redacted, suggests that she suffers from mental health issues. This statement was filed by Jay-Z's lawyers, who is 56 years old and married to pop star Beyoncé, as part of a legal action against the woman and her lawyers. Following her retraction, the artist's lawyers indicated that they were ending the proceedings against her. P. Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, was also 56 years old at the time and was sentenced to more than four years in prison in October 2025, following a highly publicized trial for sexual violence against some of his former partners, including singer Cassie, during sexual marathons.
