Apple unveils new home automation plans

Apple is preparing to expand its home automation offerings in October with new products and partnerships. The company plans to introduce a new device called HomeView, which is intended to provide a centralized view of home activities, signaling a broader push into smart home technology.

HomeView features and design

The HomeView is expected to come in two versions: one designed for wall mounting and another with a fixed base that includes speakers. The wall-mounted version will be available in black or silver, while the table-based version will come in Space Gray, silver, Stellar Light, and pink, offering a range of aesthetic choices for consumers.

Technical specifications of HomeView

The HomeView is anticipated to be powered by an A18 chip and feature a square screen. Primary control will be through voice commands and a touch-sensitive interface, distinguishing it from Apple tablets that have access to the App Store. This design choice suggests a focus on simplicity and integration with Apple's ecosystem.

Complementary smart home devices

To accompany the HomeView, Apple is expected to release a new HomePod mini equipped with an S10 chip to manage Siri AI, along with new color options. An Apple TV 2026 powered by an A19 chip may also be introduced, featuring integrated microphones for voice commands and a remote control with a built-in speaker.

HomeView sound quality and availability

The HomeView is expected to have better sound quality than the HomePod mini, though its availability may be delayed until mid-November or later, potentially launching initially in the United States. This delay could be due to manufacturing or supply chain challenges.

Partnerships to reduce costs

Apple is forming partnerships with selected brands to develop accessories that integrate with its ecosystem. Collaborations with LG and Schneider Electric, revealed in iOS 27.2 code, suggest that these partnerships aim to reduce costs by having partners bear the majority of manufacturing and marketing expenses.

Use of open standards

The use of Matter and Thread standards, which are widely adopted, is anticipated to further reduce costs and avoid the need for Apple to develop proprietary solutions. These standards ensure compatibility with a wide range of devices, making Apple's ecosystem more accessible and affordable.

New MacBook Pro and iMac updates

In addition to home automation products, Apple is expected to unveil new devices during an October 27 event. These include an all-new MacBook Pro with a revised design and the first touch OLED screen for a Mac, featuring a Dynamic Island similar to iPhones, available in 14 or 16-inch sizes.

iPad mini and future releases

The event will also see the renewal of the 14-inch "classic" MacBook Pro and the iMac with the arrival of the M6 chip. The iPad mini is expected to feature a new OLED screen, a horizontal FaceTime camera, an A20 Pro chip, new speakers, and a new price starting at $799. Product releases are anticipated at the beginning of November, with further updates expected in 2027.
