Actor faces judicial inquiry

Francis Renaud, a 59-year-old actor and director, is under investigation following allegations made by his former partner, who claims she was forced to have sexual relations in her presence with other men over a dozen years. The incidents reportedly occurred in Vernon, in the Eure, where Renaud lives, as well as in other parts of France.

Investigation details

The judicial inquiry is being handled by the Division of Organized and Specialized Crime (DCOS) in Rouen, according to Rémi Coutin, the prosecutor of Evreux. Renaud was placed in custody after the complaint was filed, indicating the seriousness of the allegations against him.

Previous legal actions

In 2024, Renaud took legal action against filmmaker André Téchiné for sexual harassment and casting director Gérard Moulevrier for sexual assault. He also filed a complaint against X for threats of death. At the time, the Evreux prosecutor urged caution, stating that the allegations against Téchiné did not meet the legal definition of sexual harassment.

Case closed for prescription

Three months after the investigation began, the Paris prosecutor closed the case due to the statute of limitations, also known as prescription. This means that the legal timeframe for pursuing the alleged offenses had expired, leading to the termination of the case.
