Outward 2, an upcoming role-playing game (RPG) developed by Nine Dots Studio, will enter early access on February 8, 2027, for PC platforms such as Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. This date was announced after the studio decided to delay the initial release, which was previously set for July 7, 2026. The delay comes in response to feedback from a closed beta test, as the developers aim to ensure the game meets community expectations. The game was initially expected to launch in early 2027, but the new date has now been confirmed. In Outward 2, players will be able to choose from three starting scenarios and eleven backgrounds that shape their initial journey. The game's world, known as Aurai, will include a full annual cycle, with four distinct regions each featuring unique biomes and seasons that can influence exploration and survival. These environmental factors will play a role in gameplay, much like in many survival-based RPGs. Combat in the game will include refined animations and more combinations of weapons and tools. Magic will continue to use a ritualistic approach, requiring players to prepare the environment or perform specific actions before spells can be cast. Inventory management will remain a key aspect of the game, allowing players to temporarily leave their backpack behind for greater mobility during combat. A new feature will let players use a mount to carry some of their equipment, although the gear must be protected during travel. The game will also support cooperative play for two players, both locally and online. The length of the early access phase has not been specified by the developers. Early access typically allows players to experience a game before its full release, often providing feedback that helps shape the final product. This approach is common in the RPG and indie game development communities, where community input can significantly influence the game's evolution.
