Game leaves early access

The JRPG Alterium Shift is set to leave its early access phase in February 2027, marking the end of a long development period. The game was first made available to players in July 2023, after initial playable demos were released in 2021.

Inspired by classic RPGs

Developed by Drattzy Games, Alterium Shift draws inspiration from role-playing games of the Super Nintendo and PlayStation eras. These classic titles are known for their deep storytelling, character development, and turn-based combat systems.

Long development period

The development team spent three and a half years in early access to refine and expand the game’s content. During this time, the studio faced several challenges, including a change in publishers in 2024, which they acknowledged as a major factor slowing down the project.

Initial platform and future plans

The game will initially be available only on PC. Console versions are in development, but no release dates have been confirmed. Players will be able to choose between three protagonists, each with unique abilities and storylines.

Character roles and gameplay features

The three protagonists are Pyra, a team leader with a spear; Atlas, an archer; and Sage, a magician who specializes in Alterium essence. The player’s choices will influence the story’s direction and outcomes.

Combat and exploration mechanics

The game features a turn-based combat system with a Burst gauge that allows players to unlock more powerful abilities and exploit enemy weaknesses. Exploration mechanics also vary by character, with Pyra able to cut through rocks and Atlas capable of striking distant targets to reach otherwise inaccessible areas.
