GTA 6 launch details confirmed

The upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in November, with a potential release on PC platforms later.

Switch 2's major title

The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to feature a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which is anticipated to be the only major blockbuster on the console at that time.

Rockstar employee's comments

Jérémy Hartvick, a former open-world designer at Rockstar Games, discussed the feasibility of porting GTA 6 to the Switch 2 in a recent podcast. He suggested that the audience for GTA 6 may not align with that of the Switch.

Porting challenges and costs

Hartvick noted that porting GTA 6 to the Switch 2 could be costly and potentially result in a subpar experience due to technical challenges. He acknowledged the idea is not "completely absurd" but emphasized it seems "hardly justifiable" at the moment.

Switch 2's lineup

The Switch 2 is expected to align with current-generation consoles and will host major multiplatform blockbusters, including Cyberpunk 2077 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

Timing of major releases

The release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Switch 2 is scheduled for November 5, just a few days before the release of GTA 6 on November 18. Other major titles are avoiding the Switch 2 to prevent overshadowing these two highly anticipated releases.
