Dance piece reimagines Proust's madeleine

Stefania Tansini, an emerging Italian dancer and choreographer, created a dance titled Madeleine that reinterprets the literary concept of Marcel Proust's madeleine cake. The piece explores how a single moment can bridge the past and present, using movement to represent the emotional and sensory impact of memory.

Dancers embody multiple presences

The performance features a trio of dancers who move through a constantly shifting space, embodying multiple presences. Their gestures and interactions evolve continuously, breaking down and reassembling into new forms. The choreography emphasizes transformation, with the dancers and environment influencing each other in real time.

Collaborative artistic team

The creation of Madeleine involved a team of artists across various disciplines. Enrico Malatesta contributed to the sound design, while Elena Gui handled the lighting. Costumes and accessories were designed by Chiara Venturini and Stefania Tansini, with production managed by Federica Parisi production and supported by several cultural institutions.

Premiere and festival support

The dance premiered in December 2026 as part of DanseDense #lefestival, with backing from the Italian Cultural Institute. It was co-produced by Nanou Associazione Culturale and Orbita | Spellbound Centro Nazionale di Produzione della Danza, with additional support from multiple Italian and international institutions focused on dance and performance.

Partnerships and recognition

The production involved partnerships with several cultural and artistic organizations, including Lavanderia a Vapore/PDV and Torinodanza Festival. The piece received recognition through awards such as the UBU Prize 2022 for "Best Performer Under 35" and was selected for Danse Élargie 2026 and the Open Studio of the NID Platform 2025.
