Avalanche traps climbers and their dog

An avalanche caught two climbers and their dog, LouLou, by surprise, sweeping them approximately 150 meters along a ridge. The climbers suffered serious injuries and were taken to the hospital, while LouLou disappeared into the wilderness.

Search begins for missing dog

LouLou was wearing an AirTag tracker, which was working but had a location error margin of about 800 meters. This made the search difficult, especially in the rugged terrain and worsening weather conditions.

Rescuers use technology and teamwork

More than 20 people joined the search effort, including a tracking dog and pilots Amanda Barker and Dave Beckett. The pilots used signals from LouLou’s tracker to help locate her, despite the challenging conditions.

Search paused due to weather

The search was halted for the day due to deteriorating weather, adding to the uncertainty for the dog’s owners and rescuers. The situation remained tense as the search continued over the next two days.

LouLou found safe and unharmed

After more than 50 hours of searching, Amanda Barker and Dave Beckett located LouLou in the mountains. The dog had survived and was in good health. Rescuers provided her with warmth, food, and water to help her recover.

Tracker helped save the dog’s life

LouLou’s AirTag tracker was crucial in her rescue, helping rescuers pinpoint her location despite the large error margin. The persistence of the search team ultimately led to the successful recovery of the dog.
