Nintendo has released a free update for Star Fox, the latest remake of the original Nintendo 64 game, which launched on June 24, 2026. This update, version 1.2.0, focuses on improving the multiplayer Combat mode, introducing three new destinations: Katina, Sector X, and Venom. These locations add new challenges and items to battles. The update also adds split-screen functionality, enabling up to four players to compete on a single Nintendo Switch 2 console, with each player needing a controller. Joy-Con 2 and Joy-Con controllers can be used in a horizontal setup for solo play. A new feature allows players to join random team matches through the split-screen option, enhancing the multiplayer experience. Visual and ergonomic adjustments have been made to enhance the impact of boss battles and improve gameplay comfort. The update includes various changes to both the Campaign and Combat modes. In Campaign Mode, a confirmation dialog now appears when players choose to "ABANDON THE CAMPAIGN" after a Game Over. In the challenge "Find the hidden bonus in the secret corridor" in "Sector X," the requirement to obtain the wing repair item has been removed, making the challenge more accessible. The weak point color of the boss "Bolse Core" in "Bolse" has also been adjusted for better visibility. Online combat has been improved, with the online room now staying active if the host leaves. In full-screen mode with a camera in GameChat, the camera video feed now appears on the game screen during specific actions, such as shooting down an enemy aircraft. A USB camera (sold separately) is needed, and the video and audio are shared only with GameChat members. Character avatars and augmented reality accessories can also be used. Training mode has been adjusted, with the positions of the left and right poles in the challenge "Tilt the device to pass between the poles" modified to make the challenge easier to complete. These changes aim to improve the overall training experience and make it more user-friendly. The update also includes a range of bug fixes across Campaign Mode, Challenge Mode, and Combat Mode. Issues such as game crashes, freezes, and incorrect score calculations have been resolved. Specific fixes include a bug where the game occasionally crashed if the player selected RESTART multiple times in a row while playing in Corneria, and a bug where the game would freeze if the player's ship was shot down at the same time as the defeat of certain bosses. Problems with boss bodies not reappearing, sound issues, and challenges where actions did not register correctly have also been addressed. The update resolves issues with third-party USB cameras not functioning correctly in the game, even though they work on the Nintendo Switch 2 console. Users are advised to use the Nintendo Switch 2 camera if third-party devices do not work. Several other issues have been resolved to enhance the overall gaming experience.
