Join a unique autumn hike in Pays des 7 Rivières, celebrating Saint Catherine with mulled wine, roasted pumpkin, and a gingerbread pig.
New event launched in Pays des 7 Rivières
On Friday, November 27, 2026, the Tourism Office in the Pays des 7 Rivières launched a new event called Courges et Catherinettes, a gourmet nighttime hike celebrating autumn and the tradition of Saint Catherine. Event details and participation
Participants are to meet at 6:00 p.m. at the Tourism Office for an 8 km hike, to be completed using front-facing lights. The event is described as a warm, group hike that is accessible, designed to enjoy the countryside of the Ognon Valley as night falls in a friendly manner. Cultural significance of Catherinettes
The event pays homage to Saint Catherine, with a nod to the tradition of "Catherinettes," which historically referred to young women who were still single at the age of 25 and wore colorful high hats. The Catherinettes of 2026 can introduce themselves to the organizing team, with a small surprise reserved for them. Symbolic elements and menu
A small gingerbread pig, a symbol of Saint Catherine in Haute-Saône, will also be present at the event. Upon arrival, hikers will find a seasonal menu featuring mulled wine or hot apple juice, roasted pumpkin, autumn vegetables, and flowing Gruyère IGP cancoillotte with rustic bread, gingerbread pig, coffee, tea or herbal tea. Cost and registration
The event is open to adults and those over 14 years old at 15 euros, and under 14 years old at 10 euros, with the meal included. Mandatory registration is required, with limited places available.
