Caroline Roux, the host of the French television program "C dans l'air" on France 5, has confirmed that she turned down the chance to become the new presenter of France 2's flagship news program, "20 Heures," which had previously been offered to Léa Salamé. Roux emphasized that she was "absolutely sure" of her decision, stating that the role did not align with her professional identity. She has been with France Télévisions since 2012 and had previously helped relaunch the show "L'Heure de vérité" on France 2. Despite the opportunity, Roux maintains that she still believes the role was not suitable for her. Léa Salamé, who had been the anchor of "20 Heures" since 2021, announced her departure on August 24, citing her partner Raphaël Glucksmann’s candidacy in the 2027 presidential election as the reason. Jean-Baptiste Marteau will now take over as the new presenter of the news program. Roux chose not to comment further on Salamé’s decision, acknowledging that it was a personal and significant choice for both Salamé and the network. Roux praised Salamé, calling her a "machine de guerre" — a term meaning a powerful, unstoppable force — and noted that she had grown to enjoy the role more over time. Despite Salamé’s success, she faced criticism during her tenure as the anchor of "20 Heures." Roux acknowledged that Salamé was able to blend the program's strict structure with her own personality, which helped her stand out as a presenter. Roux’s decision to decline the role highlights her commitment to staying true to her professional identity and the kind of media she wants to be associated with. While she respects Salamé’s contributions to the program, she has made it clear that she sees her own path in journalism as distinct from that of a news anchor.
