Arm, a leading chip design company, has unveiled the Neoverse CSS N4, a new processor aimed at high-performance computing and datacenter applications. This latest generation of Arm’s Neoverse series features up to 128 CPU cores, support for PCIe 7, and LPDDR6 memory, which offers faster data transfer speeds. The Neoverse series is divided into three main families: N for datacenters, V for high-performance computing, and E for edge computing—devices that process data close to where it is generated. The CSS (Custom Silicon Solution) configuration allows technology partners to add their own components to the chip, while Arm provides the core design. The Neoverse CSS N4 improves upon previous models with higher clock speeds of up to 3.8 GHz, larger caches, and increased memory bandwidth. In addition to Arm’s new processor, Qualcomm has formed a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop customized chips. These chips are designed to handle AI model inference—processing data using pre-trained models—and offer connectivity speeds of up to 1.6 terabits per second. This collaboration aims to improve the efficiency of cloud-based AI services and data transmission. OpenAI, the organization behind the GPT series of large language models, is working with Samsung on next-generation chip manufacturing. According to Reuters, Harrison Kim, OpenAI’s general manager in South Korea, confirmed that the company has made progress with Samsung in joint production and research on advanced chips. Previously, OpenAI collaborated with Broadcom and TSMC to develop the Jalapeño chip, which was used for generative AI tasks. Alongside its datacenter-focused Neoverse processors, Arm has also introduced new CPU cores for mobile devices. The C2-Ultra and C2-Pro cores are designed to deliver improved performance and efficiency in smartphones and tablets. Additionally, Arm launched the Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU, which is optimized for AI performance and graphics rendering. These new components aim to enhance both computational and visual capabilities in mobile devices, supporting more advanced AI applications and richer multimedia experiences.
