Rudy Sautron's debut on the PGA Tour

Rudy Sautron, a 21-year-old amateur golfer from Réunion, made his debut on the PGA Tour, marking a significant milestone in his career. Despite not qualifying for the final round of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, his performance was notable and set the stage for future opportunities.

A setback but a promising start

Sautron expressed some disappointment for not advancing to the final round of the tournament, which would have given him a chance to achieve a top 10 finish and qualify for the upcoming event in Mexico. However, he remains focused on the next steps in his golfing journey.

Future plans and university focus

Still an undergraduate in the United States, Sautron is targeting the PGA Tour University as his main goal for 2028. This program is designed to help top college golfers transition into professional golf, and he has around 18 months of study remaining.

PGA Tour University's selection process

The PGA Tour University ranks NCAA Division I golfers based on their performances in eligible competitions, in partnership with the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). Points are awarded based on results, with particular emphasis on national championships and PGA Tour events.

Upcoming changes to the system

The system for accessing the professional golf circuits is set to change by 2028. The top-ranked player in the PGA Tour University could gain direct entry into the PGA Tour Championship Series, while others might enter the PGA Tour Challenger Series or the Korn Ferry Tour, depending on their rankings.

Sautron's path to professional golf

For Sautron, the focus is on achieving strong results in his remaining college golf season to secure a privileged entry into professional golf in the United States by 2028. He will also compete in the World University Games in Thailand before returning to his home island of Réunion in December.
