Milk price benchmark released monthly

Reussir Lait publishes a monthly benchmark for the base price of milk with 38 grams of fat and 32 grams of protein per litre. This benchmark is specific to each dairy, reflecting its market position, strategy, and relationships with producers and their organizations.

Base price excludes additional costs

The base price does not include premiums for specifications such as non-GMO, which are considered extra costs for producers. Producers often seek additional premiums based on their systems, goals, and aspirations, meaning the benchmark does not reflect the actual price paid to producers.

Milk prices rise in Northern Europe

In Northern Europe, milk prices have begun a gradual increase. In Ireland, the rise started in May, according to the EDF-ZuivelNL Milk Price Comparison, which tracks prices from sixteen European dairy processors. Strong demand and slower growth in global milk supply are cited as reasons for the increase.

Germany sees significant price increases

The German Ministry of Agriculture reported a national average milk price increase of about 20 euros per 1,000 litres between May and July. The two largest European dairy cooperatives, FrieslandCampina and Arla Foods, both saw notable increases in milk prices during the summer.

France sees slight price fluctuations

In France, the conventional milk price for the 38-32 benchmark remained stable from June to August, hovering around 417 to 418 euros per 1,000 litres. However, the base prices for September and October showed slight changes. Sodiaal announced a price of 405 euros per 1,000 litres for October, down from 400 euros in September.

Lactalis follows similar trends

Lactalis also reported a similar trend, with its October milk price at 408.27 euros per 1,000 litres, up from 400 euros in September. These prices correspond to the base price of 38 grams of fat and 32 grams of protein, as reported by the FNPL's regional animators. The base prices exclude quality premiums or those linked to specific specifications, though cold/tank premiums may be included in some cases.
