Milk prices remain stable in September

The top five milk prices for September, as published by L’Éleveur laitier, show no change compared to previous months. Major dairies like Savencia, Mont Blanc, Milleret, Triballat-Rians, and Novandie continue to dominate the conventional milk price rankings.

Savencia faces price differences

Savencia, which has been in the news over contract negotiations, shows variations in its prices across different producer organizations (OPs), especially in the annual price. The September payment does not yet reflect a significant improvement in the market.

Pâturages Comtois drops in ranking

Pâturages Comtois, a major dairy, drops to 12th place in the rankings due to a 50 €/1 000 l decrease in its base price between August and September, bringing it down to 420 €. Its monthly price is still 20 € to 30 € higher than that of large dairy groups like Lactalis, Sodiaal, and Eurial.

Base prices vary across regions

Base prices for milk, all in super A quality, range below or above 410 €. In the lower range are the Breton and Loiret producer organizations, such as Lait Baie & Bocages (406,10 €), FMB Grand Ouest (404,50 €), and Les 3 Rivières (403,40 €). Savencia applies a mediator's opinion to set these prices based on economic conditions.

Disagreements over pricing

Les 3 Rivières has been paying its members without the agreement of the producer organization (OP), a situation that has persisted for several months. This has led to the termination of the agreement protocol by Savencia, as the cooperative requests more consideration for its production costs.

Higher prices in some regions

Above 410 €, the FMB Sud-Ouest and the Bongrain-Gérard Milk Producers Association (Grand Est) have base prices of 411,40 € and 412,57 €, respectively. These prices are based on the contractual formula agreed upon by both parties.

Bressor uses a different pricing model

Bressor (Ain), which has a contract with Savencia, uses a monthly price model (375,48 €) rather than the base price. It is the only French cooperative to pay milk based on the useful matter, with prices increasing from 391 € in January to April to 463,47 € in September.

Seasonal and long-term trends

Bressor’s prices show a seasonal gap between winter and summer, but its 12-month average price in September 2026 is 45,36 €/1 000 l lower than in September 2025. This includes a 31,54 € drop in base price and a 12,93 € decrease in cooperative premiums.

FMB Sud-Ouest leads with added benefits

FMB Sud-Ouest is the leading supplier to Savencia, having negotiated social and environmental responsibility (RSE) premiums in 2024. These, combined with a slightly higher base price, give it an 18 €/1 000 l advantage over the second-place OP, Les 3 Rivières.

Continued advocacy for fair pricing

Thierry Loste, the new president of FMB Sud-Ouest, states that the organization continues to fight for fair milk prices for its members, despite the framework contract signed with Savencia.
