A 65-year-old woman, Vicky Kyung Mi Kim, has been charged with murder after allegedly beating her husband to death with a flagpole in The Enclave, a high-end, gated community in Palm Desert, California. On September 4, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office responded to an “unknown trouble call” at the condominium complex just before 10 a.m. local time. When they arrived, they found an individual with severe injuries consistent with a physical assault. The victim was later pronounced dead and identified as Kim’s husband, according to court documents and the news outlet SFGate. Kim was taken into custody and booked into a local jail. Her bail has been set at $10 million. Court records reveal that Kim has a history of domestic violence involving her husband. In January, she pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges: battery of a spouse or cohabitant and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse, related to a separate incident. According to a spokesperson for the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, Molly Smith, prosecutors had previously charged Kim with a felony and secured criminal protective orders. However, a judge resolved all of her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody, and ended the protective orders. Court records obtained by KESQ News Channel 3 show that deputies responded to an address in Palm Desert on January 20 for a domestic incident and found Kim’s husband with an injured nose. Kim allegedly told a deputy that she hit him on the nose three times after an argument about finances. Prosecutors filed five domestic violence cases against Kim between September 2025 and January 2026, according to the court records. The couple had previously argued over financial matters and allegations of infidelity, as reported by KESQ.
