Teri Hatcher is set to take on the role of Miranda Priestly in the West End stage production of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical. The 61-year-old actress will step into the role following her former Desperate Housewives co-star Vanessa Williams, who is ending her run in the show on September 18. Hatcher is scheduled to make her first appearance as the formidable editor of the high-fashion magazine Runway at the Dominion Theatre on October 20. In the interim, Debbie Kurup will play Miranda Priestly. Hatcher expressed her excitement about the role, saying, "I've been fortunate enough to play some pretty formidable women throughout my career, but very few can compare to THE Miranda Priestly. I'm absolutely delighted to be joining The Devil Wears Prada in the West End." She praised the character as intelligent, commanding, and humorously intimidating, adding that the role's sharp wit and fierce ambition make it a joy to perform. The musical is based on Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel and the 2006 film adaptation, which starred Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly. The film was a box office hit, earning over $326 million worldwide and receiving two Academy Award nominations. A sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, was released in 2026, reuniting the original cast. The stage version follows the story of Andy, an ambitious journalist who joins Runway magazine and becomes entangled in the glamorous, high-pressure world of high fashion under Miranda's leadership. Hatcher has a long and varied career in both film and theater. She first gained recognition in musical theater as Sally Bowles in Cabaret and later played Morticia Addams in The Addams Family. She is best known for her role as Susan Mayer in Desperate Housewives, a show where Williams also appeared in the final seasons. Hatcher has also starred in television series such as Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and appeared in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies. Her final performance as Miranda Priestly is scheduled for February 6, 2027. Since its opening in London’s West End in December 2024, The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical has become a major success, selling over 1.3 million tickets and setting a record for the fastest-selling production at the Dominion Theatre. The show is also set to reach a significant milestone on September 23 with its 800th performance.
