Lexar, a well-known name in storage solutions, has introduced the Muse Ultra-Slim, a new portable solid-state drive (SSD) designed to be exceptionally thin. The device was unveiled at IFA 2026, marking the 30th anniversary of the brand. It is intended for mobile videographers and professionals who need high-speed storage without the bulk of traditional drives. The Muse Ultra-Slim is only 1 mm thick at the edges and 3.8 mm at its thickest point, making it one of the thinnest portable SSDs available. The drive is compatible with a variety of smartphones and devices. For iPhones, it uses MagSafe, while Pixel devices can use PixelSnap, and other smartphones can connect via Qi2 wireless charging. The Muse Ultra-Slim offers impressive read speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s through a USB-C interface. These speeds allow users to record high-resolution Apple ProRes video in 4K at 120 frames per second without relying on the phone’s internal storage. It also supports the APV codec, a format reserved by Samsung for its 2026 high-end Galaxy models. To achieve its ultra-slim design, Lexar replaced the traditional USB-C port with a proprietary Pogo pin interface. This interface works with a magnetic SnapLink cable, which is held in place by N52 neodymium magnets. However, this means that users cannot use standard USB-C cables with the drive, and if the included cable is lost, the drive becomes unusable. The Muse Ultra-Slim is compatible with iPhones, iPads, Macs, and other USB-C devices, and it can also connect to Type-A ports with an included adapter. The drive is described as slightly thicker than a credit card and can store up to 1 terabyte of data. The Muse Ultra-Slim is set to launch in the fourth quarter of 2026, with two storage options available: 512 GB and 1 TB. The price has not yet been announced. The device features a custom-designed printed circuit board and high-density NAND memory stacked beneath a monolithic metal casing. It is designed to be used with a case equipped with N52 magnets that attach to compatible smartphones. While the drive is intended to be unobtrusive during filming, its cable will remain visible, which is a trade-off for its compact and high-performance design.
