Senator opposes spa treatment reimbursement cut

Senator Lauriane Josende has strongly opposed a proposed government decree that would reduce reimbursement for spa treatments, arguing it lacks consultation with those affected and could harm both patients and local economies.

Past opposition to similar proposals

In November 2025, Josende joined 143 other parliamentarians in signing an op-ed titled No to the disappearance of spa treatments and spa territories to oppose a similar proposal during the review of the 2026 Social Security Financing Bill. The government later dropped the plan due to public pressure.

Spa treatments' role in healthcare and economy

Josende emphasizes that spa treatments are crucial for patients with chronic conditions and serve as a vital economic driver in rural areas, supporting jobs, shops, and local services. She warns that cutting reimbursement could weaken access to care and harm these regions.

Call for scientific review and consultation

The senator has urged the government to delay the proposed decree until a scientific evaluation by the High Authority for Health is completed and stakeholders are properly consulted. She remains formally opposed to the measure, citing its potential negative impacts on both healthcare and the economy.

Commitment to defending the sector

Josende has vowed to continue advocating for spa treatments and the jobs they support in the Senate and before the government, emphasizing the importance of preserving this sector for both health and economic reasons.
