The first Medicobus in Tarn-et-Garonne has been launched to bring mobile medical consultations to several rural communes in the region. This initiative, which started in September, seeks to enhance healthcare access for people living in areas where medical resources are limited. The Medicobus is described as a "Mobile and itinerant Health Center in Tarn-et-Garonne," designed to travel to different locations and provide general practitioner consultations and other essential medical services. The Medicobus makes its first stops every 15 days at four communes: Montbeton, Mirabel, Septfonds, and Labastide-du-Temple. General medical consultations are offered directly within the vehicle, helping to reduce the need for residents to travel to nearby communes for medical appointments. In addition, pediatric consultations are provided twice a month in Lauzerte, Valence-d'Agen, and Beaumont-de-Lomagne, in collaboration with the Maternal and Child Protection (PMI) organization. The project is led by the Association Promotion, Autonomie et Santé 82 (APAS 82), which focuses on supporting isolated individuals and those without a family doctor in rural areas. These areas often face challenges in accessing care due to the distance to medical professionals. The Medicobus aims to address so-called "medical deserts" by delivering essential health services directly to patients in their communities. The annual cost of operating the Medicobus is 477,746 euros. Funding is provided by the Occitanie Regional Health Agency, which will contribute 200,000 euros annually for three years, totaling 600,000 euros. Additional financial support comes from the Department, the CPAM (a French health insurance organization), and the MSA (a national social security organization). The Medicobus is now expected to become a regular part of daily life in the communes it serves, with ongoing visits designed to maintain a consistent medical presence for the residents.
