The 37th edition of the Mental Health Awareness Weeks (SISM) is taking place from October 5 to October 18, aiming to inform the general public and raise awareness about mental health issues. Across the territory, associations, citizens, and professionals are organizing several thousand events. In Corsica, this edition brings together 69 partners around 69 actions. Lyvia Cosimi, communication officer at Promotion Santé Corse, explains that these actions aim to highlight the work of mental health actors on the island, supporting both those with and without disorders. The events, held in Ajaccio, Bastia, Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, the Balagne, the Sartenais Valinco, Corte, and the Eastern Plain, focus on prevention and promoting good mental health. Cosimi emphasizes that the initiative is not curative but preventive, aiming to normalize the term mental health and discuss well-being in daily life.
This year's Mental Health Awareness Weeks highlight the links between art and mental health. Music, dance, cinema, painting, theater, and photography are being used as tools to foster understanding and expression. Cosimi notes that art can serve as a unifying element, allowing people to express feelings non-verbally. Examples include adult coloring books, a play in Bastia written by someone with psychiatric disorders, and exhibitions of young people's creations in Porto-Vecchio and Ajaccio. In Ajaccio, a Social Film Festival will be held for the first time in Corsica, organized by the educational service Ponticelli of the Castelluccio hospital center. The event includes film screenings and discussions around social sector jobs, with debates involving caregivers, social professionals, and the associative sector to destigmatize mental health.
Additional events include a CAB vehicle stolen and set on fire in Furiani, a 145-kilometer journey by Solan Autric to Bunifazziu, 19 teenagers cared for after a capsizing incident involving boats from a sailing school in Bastia, and La Poste's participation in the France Services Days from October 5 to October 17, 2026. In Bastia, the AS Furiani-Agliani and FC Lupinu have denounced a prejudice following the burglary of a snack bar at the Erbajolo stadium.
