New exhibition opens in Paris

The MAIF Social Club in Paris has opened a new free exhibition titled « Semons nos résistances » (Sow Our Resistances), which runs from October 17, 2026, to July 24, 2027. The exhibition features works by fifteen contemporary artists, curated by AnneSophie Bérard and the MAIF Social Club, exploring themes of resistance, unity, and alternative ways of inhabiting the Earth.

Exhibition's central question

The exhibition is introduced by a question posed by artist Nicolas Daubanes: « Who is responsible for the responsible? » The question is displayed in black on a wall above a trail of powder. The curatorial team notes that the exhibition responds to « institutional, economic and environmental violences » that translate into ambitions of control, exploitation, and exhaustion of bodies, territories, and imaginaries.

First chapter focuses on dark times

The first chapter, « Traverser les temps sombres » (Crossing Dark Times), includes works by Nicolas Daubanes, as well as two characters by Mark Jenkins collapsed on themselves, heads hidden under their hair or in hoods, as if weighed down by sadness. A sky drawn in graphite by François Réau seems to link their depression to the state of the world, reminding viewers that one cannot live without considering ecological issues.

Second chapter highlights disobedience

The second chapter, « L'art de désobéir » (The Art of Disobedience), features the outstretched hands of Célia Cassaï, and photographs by Cha Gonzalez that recall moments of celebration opening possibilities to escape the world to better come together. The communicative joy of colorful banners by Zoé Saudrais is highlighted, as she reinvents classic supports of militancy to renew their scope.

Exhibition explores reconnection and new paths

In « Renouer les liens » (Reconnecting the Threads), Marie-Claire Messouma Manlanbien challenges the colonial imagination, while Simon Augade invites a bit of wild life into the heart of the art center with a sculptural work made from tree bark. Basserode invites visitors to play and collaborate, offering a transition to the final chapter, « Ouvrir de nouveaux chemins » (Opening New Paths).

Final chapter emphasizes struggle and hope

This section includes a video by Julie Chaffort that directly addresses the issue of struggle, as well as a shelter form by Tiphaine Calmettes. Marinella Senatore uses colored neon to revive the strength and joy of desires, while the association Hasnya gives voice to testimonies of people invisibilized, including mothers from immigration and popular neighborhoods. The exhibition concludes with murals by Agrume, whose street art claims a new relationship to the city.
