Google is preparing to release a new Fitbit smartwatch called Fitbit Edge, with details about its design and features recently emerging from leaked documents and images. These were shared by Android Headlines, a tech news site that obtained technical specifications and visuals confirming the watch's design. The Fitbit Edge is expected to be the successor to the Fitbit Charge 6, which was released in 2023. Unlike the Pixel Watch 5, which only works with Android devices, the Fitbit Edge will support both Android and iOS phones, offering a broader range of compatibility. The Fitbit Edge features a curved screen that reaches closer to the edges than previous Fitbit models, giving it a design similar to the Pixel Watch. It includes a GPS for tracking location, an altimeter for measuring elevation changes (a feature missing from the Charge 6), and a heart rate monitor. The watch is expected to have a battery life of up to seven days, matching the Fitbit Air and Charge 6. It also includes sensors similar to those on the Fitbit Air and allows users to switch straps using a clip mechanism. The device will be available in three colors—black, green, and orange—matching the color scheme of the Pixel 11 Pro. The Fitbit Edge is expected to offer features such as integration with Google Maps, controls for music and YouTube Music, and a "Locate My Phone" function. However, it does not appear to include Google Wallet for contactless payments, a feature available on the Fitbit Charge 6. The device was submitted to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in September, and Android Headlines anticipates a potential release as early as October. Although Google has not officially confirmed the release date or price, the Fitbit Edge is expected to cost between the Fitbit Air (99 euros) and the Pixel Watch 5 (starting at 419 euros). The Fitbit Charge 6 was priced at 159 euros at launch, and the Fitbit Edge is expected to be around 200 euros.
