Filming for a three-part Christmas special of The Other Bennet Sister, a BBC television series, has wrapped up, with fans eagerly awaiting its release. The show is inspired by Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and focuses on Mary Bennet, the middle daughter of the Bennet family, as she faces the challenges of Regency-era society. The first season, filmed mainly in Wales, was a hit with 7.3 million UK viewers in its first four weeks and gained popularity in the U.S. and Canada as well as on social media. The series was created by Ruth Jones, best known for Gavin and Stacey, who plays Mrs. Bennet, with Richard E. Grant portraying her husband, Mr. Bennet. The show's TV producer, Edoardo Ferretti, shared a message on Instagram on Monday, marking the completion of the Christmas special. He wrote, "And yet another wrap! Every time emotional, every time proud. This one is going to be so special!" Fans responded enthusiastically to the news, expressing excitement about seeing the Bennet family on screen again. Russell T. Davies, the acclaimed writer behind Doctor Who and It's a Sin, also shared his anticipation for the special. The Christmas special, produced by Cardiff-based Bad Wolf, was filmed during the summer primarily in Wales, much like the first season. The original series was shot in locations across south Wales, including Merthyr Mawr, the Gower Peninsula near Swansea, and Brecon in mid-Wales. The first season concluded with Mary Bennet agreeing to marry Tom Hayward, and the Christmas special is expected to follow their life after the wedding. Executive producer Jane Tranter mentioned that the special would allow audiences to "spend a little more time with characters audiences have taken to their hearts." The first series was not only a success in the UK but also reached a wider audience through BritBox North America, with 250 million media views across BBC's social media platforms. The Christmas special is set to premiere during the holiday season on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK, and on BritBox in the U.S. and Canada. The show’s popularity has led to the production of three 30-minute episodes, offering fans more time with the beloved characters and their continuing story.
