Philips has launched the 55PQS8631, a new television that combines several technologies the brand is known for, including Ambilight, Ultra HD image quality, and Dolby Atmos for a more immersive experience. The model is currently available at Boulanger with a 100 euro discount, reducing its price from 649 euros to 549 euros. This makes it a more affordable option for consumers looking to upgrade their home entertainment systems. The 55PQS8631 features a 55-inch Ultra HD panel with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, enhanced by QLED technology. This uses Quantum Dots—tiny particles that improve brightness and contrast, resulting in more vivid and lifelike images. The TV also includes Ambilight technology, which uses LED strips on three sides of the back to project colors that match the content on screen, creating a more engaging and immersive experience. For sound, it supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, both of which are advanced audio formats designed to create a three-dimensional sound field. However, the TV has only two built-in speakers, each with a maximum power of 10 watts, which may not be sufficient for larger rooms. A soundbar might be needed for the best audio performance. The television has slim bezels, making it visually appealing, and it is compatible with the VESA 300 x 300 mm standard, allowing it to be mounted on a wall without the included feet. However, it lacks an anti-reflective coating, which could make it more prone to glare in brightly lit environments. In terms of connectivity, the 55PQS8631 includes three HDMI 2.0 ports, but no HDMI 2.1 port. This means it is not compatible with the latest gaming consoles for 144 Hz gaming. The TV's refresh rate is 60 Hz, though it can be optimized to 120 Hz, which may be useful for smoother motion in some content.
