Apple is reportedly planning a significant update to its MacBook Pro line, which could include a new top-tier model called the MacBook Ultra. According to a report by Omdia, this new device may feature a touch-sensitive OLED screen, a thinner design, and a feature known as Dynamic Island — a small, interactive panel typically seen on Apple’s iPhones. The report also suggests that Apple may continue using miniLED technology in its laptops until 2028, meaning that the current MacBook Pro models with miniLED displays might still be available alongside the new OLED-equipped MacBook Ultra. This could result in two separate product lines: one with miniLED screens, and another with OLED screens, each targeting different consumer needs and price points. The MacBook Pro line is expected to remain more affordable, while the MacBook Ultra, with its OLED display and advanced features, could start at a price exceeding $2,999. This would position the MacBook Ultra as Apple’s flagship laptop, offering cutting-edge technology and premium design. In the fall of 2026, Apple’s product lineup may include the MacBook Neo with the A18 Pro chip, the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models with M5 chips, and several MacBook Pro models still using miniLED displays. This would allow Apple to gradually phase in OLED technology while maintaining a range of options for different users. By the spring of 2027, Apple may introduce a 14-inch MacBook Pro with an OLED display and the M7 chip, while the MacBook Air and MacBook Neo models would likely be updated with newer chipsets. This timeline suggests a steady evolution of Apple’s laptop lineup, with each model receiving regular updates and improvements. Additionally, Apple has scheduled an event for September 9, which could bring announcements about the new MacBook Pro models, as well as other products like the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, and potentially a foldable iPhone. This event could mark a major milestone in Apple’s product roadmap for the coming year.
