Social media post triggers legal action

A social media post by LFI deputy Clémence Guetté led to a formal request for an investigation by Alexandre Dupalais, an advisor to the 8th arrondissement in Lyon. The post, which included a sign reading "QUENTIN ON T'ENTENDS PLUS!" and a photo of nationalist activist Quentin Deranque, was reported to the prosecutor's office on October 15, 2026.

Legal basis for the report

Alexandre Dupalais cited Article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in his letter to the prosecutor. He argued that the message could be interpreted as an "apology for the crime of intentional assault on life," suggesting it might be linked to the ongoing investigation into Quentin Deranque’s death.

Content of the social media post

Clémence Guetté posted the story on October 14, 2026, during an event attended by Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The post featured a sign with the phrase "QUENTIN ON T'ENTENDS PLUS!" and a photograph of Quentin Deranque. The text was accompanied by the caption "Quentin, we can't hear you anymore!"

Requests for investigation and evidence

Dupalais asked the prosecutor to investigate the author of the sign and anyone involved in its distribution. He specifically targeted the Instagram post, requesting that Meta Platforms Ireland be contacted to preserve the content and related data, as the story was set to disappear after 24 hours.

Ongoing investigation into Quentin Deranque’s death

Quentin Deranque, 23, died in February after being violently attacked in Lyon. The investigation into his death has led to the arrest of several individuals, including six men charged with murder and a seventh for complicity in murder by instigation. Some of those implicated were linked to the former Jeune Garde movement.
