Family seeks wider investigation

The family of Quentin Deranque, a 23-year-old nationalist activist who died in February, has asked for a direct judicial investigation into LFI deputy Raphaël Arnault, citing "association of wrongdoers." The request was submitted by the family’s lawyer, Fabien Rajon, to the Lyon courthouse on October 21.

Details of the fatal incident

Deranque was beaten to death on February 12 during an event held by LFI eurodeputy Rima Hassan at Sciences Po Lyon. He was part of the security team for the identitarian group Némésis when a confrontation occurred with individuals linked to the Young Guard, an anti-fascist group co-founded by Arnault, which has since been dissolved.

Legal actions and denials

Fourteen people are already being prosecuted in connection with Deranque’s death. The Lyon prosecutor’s office denied any attempt to arrest Arnault, and a recent controversy arose over claims that he was targeted by police in Paris. The Lyon prosecutor, Thierry Dran, explicitly denied these claims.

Arnault’s legal response

Raphaël Arnault’s lawyer, Chirinne Ardakani, stated that her client has no guilt to acknowledge and is ready to cooperate with the judiciary. According to a source close to the case, the police intended to serve a summons to Arnault as part of the ongoing investigation into Deranque’s death.
