Milo Beimers, an 18-year-old former goalkeeper for Glentoran, embarked on a 2,000-mile road trip across Europe with his father, Kevin, in search of a new football club. The journey, which lasted about 30 days, took them through several countries before Beimers signed with Viterbese, a team based in the medieval city of Viterbo, about an hour from Rome. Viterbese plays in Serie D, the fourth tier of Italian football. Beimers had played for Glentoran since he was 13 and had initially planned to attend multiple trials in Spain and the UK before a call from an Italian club led him to Italy. His journey, filled with both challenges and successes, culminated in a debut for Viterbese, where he kept a clean sheet in a 4-0 victory over Anagni. Viterbese was recently relegated to Serie D after a difficult season, and Beimers is eager to help the club return to the third tier. The club has since merged with another team under the name Vigor Campagnano Gialloblu, but Viterbese remains its home base. Beimers was attracted to the club’s modern facilities, including a 7,000-seat stadium, as well as the people involved. Despite not speaking Italian and most of his teammates not speaking much English, he is learning the language with their support. The Italian style of play, which emphasizes technical skills and precise positioning, is different from what he’s used to, but he is excited to adapt and grow as a player. Throughout his journey, Beimers shared updates on social media, documenting both the positive and difficult moments of his experience. He described feelings of homesickness and uncertainty about his future, but remains committed to his new path. He hopes his story will inspire other young players to take initiative and create their own opportunities in football. The van he and his father used for the trip, which was converted by his sister Charlie, will remain in Europe for a new adventure, as it was originally intended for a trip around the continent. Beimers’ father will return home, while Milo will stay in Italy to continue his football career. His journey, though unconventional, has opened a new chapter for him, and he is determined to make the most of it. With his new team and new environment, he is focused on adapting, improving, and helping Viterbese achieve its goals.
