Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Santiago Beltrán, a young goalkeeper from Argentina. Beltrán made his debut for the Argentine national team this summer and is seen as a future replacement for Emiliano Martinez, who currently plays for England’s Aston Villa. The 21-year-old is under contract with River Plate, a top club in Argentina, until December 2027. However, negotiations to extend his deal have not moved forward, and his representatives—managed by the same agency as Martinez—are looking to secure a move to Europe soon. According to reports from ESPN Argentina, Manchester United are not the only European club keeping an eye on Beltrán. Inter Milan is also interested, and other clubs like Juventus and Real Betis have been linked with potential transfers. Earlier in the summer, Aston Villa had shown interest in the goalkeeper before signing Japan’s Zion Suzuki. Manchester United signed Belgium’s Senne Lammens as their first-choice goalkeeper last summer, and he has performed well in the Premier League so far. Other goalkeepers, including Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, are currently on loan at Trabzonspor and Celta Vigo, respectively. Karl Darlow was signed in the summer to serve as Lammens’ backup, and the club also sold Radek Vitek to Middlesbrough. Despite Lammens’ strong performances, former United coach Rene Meulensteen has expressed some concerns after the team’s recent draw with Everton. While he praised Lammens for his impressive saves and overall season, he questioned whether he could be compared to legendary goalkeepers like Peter Schmeichel, Edwin van der Sar, or David de Gea. Meulensteen pointed to the goal conceded against Everton as a concern and suggested that strengthening both the goalkeeper and striker positions is vital for the club’s success moving forward.
