Deep Silver and 4A Games have announced updates for their classic first-person shooter games, Metro 2033 and Last Light, as part of a new package called Metro Redux. This updated version will be available on the latest consoles, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The update aims to enhance the original games using modern technology while preserving their core design and storytelling. The release of Metro 2039, the latest installment in the series, is scheduled for February 4. Owners of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Metro 2033 and Last Light will receive the updated versions for free. PC players will also get the update at no cost. The enhancements include support for up to 120 frames per second on consoles, providing smoother gameplay and more immersive visuals. 4A Games has clarified that Metro Redux is not a full remake or a complete remaster of the original games. Instead, it is an enhancement that brings the original aesthetic to modern hardware. The update includes 4K textures, improved animations, better sound quality, more detailed environments, and refined lighting, shadows, and particle effects. These improvements are based on feedback from the gaming community and aim to elevate the overall experience without altering the original game's feel. On consoles, Metro Redux will offer native 4K resolution at 60 frames per second or upscaled 4K up to 120 FPS with compatible displays. The PlayStation 5 Pro will benefit from PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Rendering), while the Xbox Series X will use TSR (Temporal Super Resolution) for upscaling and anti-aliasing. Xbox players will also get support for Spatial Audio, while console controllers will take advantage of advanced features like the DualSense's adaptive triggers and the Impulse Triggers on Xbox controllers. On PC, the update will add DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) and Spatial Audio, along with several comfort improvements to make the gameplay more accessible and enjoyable.
