Deep Silver, a video game publisher, has announced that the Metro franchise, developed by 4A Games, has sold over 50 million copies worldwide. This milestone highlights the popularity of the series, which is known for its post-apocalyptic settings and first-person shooter gameplay. The success of the franchise sets a positive tone for Metro 2039, the next installment in the series, which is scheduled to release on February 4. To prepare players for the upcoming game, free updates for the earlier titles Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light will be released on October 29 for the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. These updates will bring technological improvements such as better animations, clearer sound effects, and bug fixes. However, they will not be a full remaster of the games, but instead will enhance certain features and technologies. On the PS5 Pro, players can expect features like PSSR (Progressive Super Sampling Resolution) to be activated, along with support for the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers, which provide tactile feedback. On Xbox Series consoles, the updates will include anti-aliasing, which smooths out jagged edges in graphics, and spatial audio, which creates a more immersive sound experience. Both versions will support 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, with the option to upscale to 120 FPS on compatible displays. Lighting, shadows, and special effects will also be improved. Additionally, Xbox Play Anywhere will be enabled, allowing players to use their purchases across both Xbox consoles and the ROG Xbox Ally, a hybrid gaming device. For PC users, an update will be available on October 22, adding support for DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), a technology that enhances image quality using AI, as well as spatial audio. These updates will be provided at no cost to players, ensuring that fans of the Metro series can enjoy enhanced versions of the older games without additional expenses.
