Users of Grok Bot, an AI assistant developed by SpaceXAI, can now link their bank accounts and investment portfolios to the agent, allowing it to manage expenses, including within their Tesla vehicles. SpaceXAI recently added a Finance integration to its platform, enabling users to delegate financial tasks to the AI. Elon Musk announced the update on X with the simple message: "Grok Bot can manage your finances." This marks a significant step in which the company is allowing its clients to entrust their money to an AI agent. On August 28, SpaceXAI opened online purchases through Grok Bot. Users must approve each transaction, after which Stripe provides the AI with a single-use card for the payment via its Link wallet. This approach mirrors the one taken by Meta with its personal assistant Muse, launched in the United States this month, where users also manually approve each purchase made by the assistant. SpaceXAI connects Grok to the accounts of its American users through Plaid, a California-based company that specializes in linking apps with banks. Initially, users could only ask Grok about their expenses and savings. With the new Finance integration, the AI has transitioned from offering advice to actively managing financial tasks. However, there is no information yet about whether this feature will be available in Europe. Elon Musk had previously promised to expand Grok Bot's presence in Tesla vehicles within three months. This was completed on September 22, when Tesla integrated Grok Bot into its cars. Drivers can now use voice commands to delegate tasks to the AI while the car is in supervised autonomous driving mode (FSD). However, access to the bot in the vehicle is limited to users with the SuperGrok Heavy subscription plan. The connectors linking the AI to the user's bank or messaging service are available to all Grok users. This means a driver can request a summary of their expenses or a list of upcoming bills during a trip. Elon Musk has promised to reimburse users if Grok Bot makes a mistake. At the end of August, Teslaconomics, an X account focused on Tesla investors, suggested trusting Grok Bot with their bank accounts. Musk responded: "Try it. If Grok Bot makes a mistake, we will fully reimburse you." However, SpaceXAI's terms of service do not include such a guarantee. Instead, the user is held responsible for the AI's actions, and the company limits its liability to the higher of the fees paid or $100. The documentation also advises users to require approval for each purchase or transfer. Rasa Jurgutytė, an information security researcher at Cybernews, notes that while Elon Musk can reimburse financial losses, he cannot guarantee the protection of sensitive data. "At best, an agent can misunderstand a request. At worst, it can be manipulated by prompt injections or malicious queries," she warned in late August. In the event of a data breach, a hacker could access transaction history and account balances, and Musk would not be able to prevent the disclosure of such information, according to the researcher. For now, Musk's guarantee is only mentioned in his response to Teslaconomics on X.
