LG introduces new OLED television model

LG has launched the OLED55B6 as part of its B series, aiming to make OLED technology more accessible while retaining its key advantages. This 55-inch model, available in France since May 2026, is positioned below LG's higher-end C6 and G6 models and is noted as the most sold diagonal size in the market.

Technical specifications of the B6

The B6 features a 4K OLED panel with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels at 120 Hz, powered by the Alpha 8 AI 4K Gen3 processor and the webOS 26 platform. It uses a WOLED panel, which differs from the RGB Primary Tandem panels used in higher-end models. LG claims a noticeable improvement in brightness compared to the previous B5 model.

Design and aesthetics

The B6 has a slim design with a dark, high-quality plastic chassis suitable for modern living rooms. The screen is mounted on two feet, allowing installation on a wide range of furniture. It is compatible with the VESA standard for wall mounting and includes a textured finish on the back to avoid a raw plastic look.

Connectivity and ports

The B6 offers four HDMI 2.1 ports, all compatible with 4K at 120 Hz, variable refresh rate (VRR), and auto low latency mode (ALLM). One port supports eARC for high-quality audio output. Additional connectivity includes a USB port, two antenna inputs, an Ethernet port, and support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3. It is compatible with AirPlay and Google Cast for streaming from mobile devices.

Screen burn-in considerations

The B6 is sensitive to screen burn-in, a common issue with OLED technology. LG has included features like automatic image shift and pixel compensation cycles to help prevent this. The remote control includes a Magic Remote with a pointer for interface navigation and a built-in microphone for voice search.

Image quality and display features

The B6 uses a WOLED panel with white organic diodes filtered by red, green, blue, and white subpixels. The Alpha 8 AI 4K Gen3 processor manages contrast, sharpness, and noise reduction. The television supports HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HLG. Available image modes include Filmmaker Mode for accurate content reproduction and Game Optimizer for enhanced gaming responsiveness.

Performance metrics

Measurements showed a theoretically infinite contrast ratio, with an average Delta E of 4.04 in SDR and 2.6 in HDR. Brightness in HDR was a strong point, reaching up to 790 cd/m² for small windows. The color gamut coverage in HDR was 95.91% of DCI-P3 and 70.43% of BT.2020.

Gaming capabilities

The B6 provides four HDMI 2.1 ports with 4K at 120 Hz, VRR, and ALLM. It supports Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium. Input lag was measured at 9.1 ms in Game mode, offering excellent responsiveness. The LG gaming interface allows easy adjustment of settings without leaving the game.

Audio system and performance

The B6 features a 2.0 audio system with 20 watts of power, compatible with Dolby Atmos. However, the sound quality was found to be somewhat underwhelming, lacking depth and dynamics, especially in action scenes. The eARC output allows for lossless Dolby Atmos audio transmission to external sound systems.

Software and user interface

The B6 runs on webOS 26, LG's latest operating system, which includes features such as Microsoft's Copilot AI, personalized recommendations, and a user-friendly interface. It supports a wide range of apps, including Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and Apple TV, with support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The interface includes parental controls and user profiles.

Power consumption and availability

The B6 consumes an average of 42 watts during four hours of use in Filmmaker mode, considered very efficient. Standby consumption is 0.5 watts. The LG OLED55B65LA is available in multiple sizes, including 48, 55, 65, 77, and 83 inches, with a price of just under 1300 euros for the 55-inch model.
